TEEX Gym

Texas A&M University

College Station, Texas

Texas A&M University’s Texas Engineering Extension Services (TEEX), trains police and sheriff cadets for the surrounding law enforcement agencies. PDG designed a new state-of-the-art fitness facility that focuses on conditioning and agility training. The 10,500 SF building houses men’s and women’s locker rooms, a weight training gymnasium, and an aerobic conditioning gym that is designed to double as a multi-purpose room.

The training facility is located adjacent to the TEEX classroom building and outdoor training area on the Rellis Campus. The design for this masonry and metal panel building features sustainable design elements such as: north facing clerestory windows, low flow plumbing fixtures, and an energy efficient HVAC system. It is designed to meet LEED® certification criteria for sustainable design.

Cognizant of the expected rough and tumble use, interior finishes with excellent resilience were used throughout the facility. The rubberized performance flooring in the conditioning gym was selected for its ability to withstand spikes and cleats while providing a comfortable and durable surface. Large wall panels of thin porcelain sheets in the shower areas reduce the amount of grout joints and hence, reduce maintenance over the life of the facility. Colored concrete flooring and painted concrete block walls in the public areas provide a durable finish for ease of care.
