Founded in 1879, Sam Houston State University is one of the oldest universities in the State of Texas. The Bearkat community of faculty and students resides in historic Huntsville, affording students proximity to the urban resources of Houston and the charm of a small town university campus.

As a member institution of the Texas State University System, regents and administrators are dedicated to continual enhancement  of the 2,150-acre campus. In the past five years, renovation and construction projects valued at more than $225 Million have been committed.
